In Chama, New Mexico, the The Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad is hard to miss. What's particularly great about this place is that you are free to roam around the yard and photograph at will. Here some worker guys are taking little 488 for a little spin down the track. They cleaned out the fire box and loaded the tender (that little car behind the cab) with fresh water.
The Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad (C&TS) is a narrow gauge heritage railroad running between Chama, New Mexico and Antonito, Colorado. The track was originally laid in 1880 by the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad. Starting in 1970, the railroad began to take tourists on six-hour trips between the two towns, using steam locomotives.
