2008 moto trip V, Lake Chapala : Each March, for five years running now, I dust the cobwebs off my trusty (+rusty) 1985 Harley Davidson Low Rider (aka The Green Hornet) and take it places angels fear to tread. Namely road trip Mexico way. This year were no different 'cept my usual riding partner (Clayton) would not be accompaning me. This would a solo ride. The Lone Wolf rides again. If you really want to know, click here for a link to the whole story.

July 2007 Aramberri to Purisima, via Altamira : July 4th, 2007, I trailered my 1993 Kawasaki 650KLX to Aramberri, Nuevo Leon, due south of Galeana. My goal was to find back roads from Aramberi to Inturbide. It was raining in Mexico as much as in Texas that weekend and the river in Aramberri was at flood levels. What I discovered: apparantly there is only a walking trail between Guadalupe and Buena Vista. So, from Aramberri I road the bike to Provenir, Sacramento, Reforma (4 families), Caballada, Milpillas (from where a side road leads to Guadalupe but not Buena Vista), San Jose and out to the hwy, north on asphalt to San Juanito cutoff and from there dirt roads to Agua Blanca and Purisima. I never did get to Buena Vista. The last day was hard pack roads to Cuevas, Inturbide, and then asphalt past Galeana back to Aramberri.

Galeana to Camarones, Purisima : June 2007. A weekend trip to Galeana, planning on one day of riding. I reached Camarones, but rain forced me to spend the night in the sawmill community of Purisima, with great hosts. I got disoriented the next day but nevertheless made it out of the Sierra and back to Galeana. No falls.

Mexican Moto IV El Pacifico : March 2007, the 4th Annual Mexican Moto foray for the dynamic duo, me & my friend Clayton. See miltonotto.typepad.com/archives for the full report. Ahh, this will forever be remembered for Clayton's accident at the beginning of the trip. I had to stash the bike, and send Clayton home. I did the rest of the trip solo.

Matacanes, Mexico May 2006 : May 2006. Becky & I drove from Austin, Texas to Laguna de Sanchez, N.Leon, Mexico, up in the cool mountains south of Monterrey. The next day we embarked on an 8 hour hike to a preordained spot to camp. The morning following our hike, Mauricio and his group from Matacanes.net arrived to sweep us down a strech of the river called Matacanes, which involved 2 rappells. Always an adventure in Mexico, back in Laguna de Sanchez we awoke to a fire running thru the trees near our cabana. We packed quickly and made a hasty retreat, (I wrestled a billy goat). The cabanas were unharmed and no one locally was terribly excited. We stopped at Cola de Caballo Falls and Villa Santiago on the way home.

2002 Huasteca canyon : May 2002. Exploring the back roads of the mountains south of Monterrey. The route included Rayones, Casillas, Laguna de Sanchez, San Juan Bautista, the back way into Monterrey thru the Canon El Alamo and Hausteca canyon, thru Monterrey and back around to Santiago, Cienega, San Juan Bautista again and exploring down San Juan Baustista canyon as for as I could, then back thru Laguna de Sanchez, over the pass to Casillas, and finally back to Rayones. Photos were laboriously scanned from 35mm film exposed with an Olympus point-and-shoot pocket camera.
